Taking a leap and putting yourself out there is quite an undertaking. You think about all the ways you may fail. Then something tells you to go for it. Listen to your gut! Really, how much does it matter if you don’t get it right at first? You have to land and take off again with a new game plan.
I have read many articles on fear of failure. You can’t let fear stop you. You will become dormant. Instead be a believer in yourself. Why think you can’t do something new? I like to say that you have to keep moving to continue living a full life. Take on a new endeavor. It doesn’t have to be a huge undertaking but something you’d like to do. Take action and then go take a nap!
“Learn something new every day.” is a great standby for inspiration, but it is also a great philosophy to live by. You have to put on your big girl panties one leg at a time like everyone else but you can choose your own color and style! Be true to who you are and you will be successful. Remember success is measured in many ways. Giving something a try is a success to me. Having it work out is the icing on the cake.
So here I am opening a boutique for the first time in my life! A series of very fortunate events occurred that encouraged me to do this. Least of all was the opportunity given to me by Fitness Expert, Kathy McCready who wanted a boutique at her Fitness Center, Providence! Integrated Health and Fitness.
I thought about my love of finding “just the right thing,” and sharing that find with my friends and family. This pursuit continually sent me in search of sources providing unique and special products. “Why not take that passion and curate items for a boutique?” I pondered. Of course, panic followed. How could I commit to such a big endeavor?
How could I not? It would be exciting. It would be stressful. I will laugh and enjoy all the excitement a new project brings and I will cry with frustration. I have to learn accounting procedures, new marketing skills and social media. Shriek! I will have a blast meeting creative artists, whether they paint, build, sew, make jewelry or candles. I will have to get out there and network.
Well, I am officially an entrepreneur. Took the plunge and Scooch A Mi was born. This process included all the things I mentioned above and more. Now the fun begins as I officially open my doors to the public. I have kept my price point in check so I can appeal to most shoppers these days. I have handpicked every item so it is something I would use or love to have. This could be problematic if I keep wanting one of everything I sell! Restraint is character building though, right?
The journey has led me to meet some wonderfully imaginative entrepreneurs. There are so many out there, young, older, near and far, producing gorgeous items that are good for us and this earth. Recycling different materials to form other useful objects takes forward thinking individuals. I am thrilled to be able to get their products and ideas out there. Partnership is a true gift. There is enough to go around for everyone. I am proud to present the works of my new partners; it is a pleasure and an honor.
Having a very supportive loving family and truly amazing friends has helped me through this process. They all believed in me. I send them all love and hugs. I also strongly recommend that you surround yourself with good, kind people that want the best for you. I am not the first to say this or figure this out. Not by a long shot. Make this a priority for yourself and you will be ready to take on a new adventure. Be daring!
