Giving Back

December 23, 2016

Plant flowers in others’ gardens and your life becomes a bouquet!

— Unknown

The holiday season tends to bring to mind those in need. Giving back to our communities, supporting a cause near and dear to our hearts, making sure to spread the cheer and love to those around us are actions we all should be taking. Truly something we should be doing all throughout the year. With my passionate personality, when I learn I can be of help and really have an impact, I act.

I carry this philosophy into my business. As I seek out next season’s merchandise for Scooch A Mi Boutique, I continue my search for distinctive, handmade goods from local, national and international artists and artisans. In addition to finding a product that has imaginative and aesthetic appeal, I like to find out the who, what, where and why from the creator or curator. It's amazing what you learn when you stop and listen.

Over the course of the last nine months I have found many entrepreneurs who dedicate themselves to giving back. I am proud to collaborate with them knowing we are so like-minded. I will share of few of these partnerships here. I look forward to continuing this mission of Scooch A Mi in 2017. Here you go……

Victoria, the artist behind Motifs by Victoria creates and sells a special bracelet for charitable causes. Victoria donates 25% of the sales of these beautiful ribbon and charm bracelets. The charm is Victoria’s own design take on hands holding a heart. The silk ribbon of the bracelet is available in many colorways. The charm is copper or silver.

Good Work(s) Make a Difference bracelets are more than just fashion accessories. The simple statements on them lift your spirit and inspire you to make a difference in your community. Good Works Make a Difference is one of the fastest growing socially conscious fashion/accessories brands in the market. The company donates 25% of its net profits to charitable contributions supporting in-need communities in the United States and around the world including the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Aid Through Trade™ designed the original Roll-On ® bracelet made with the highest quality glass beads by women artisans in Nepal. There are 30 beautiful color combinations which look amazing when stack them on your arm.   Aid Through Trade™ is one of the founding members of the Fair Trade Federation, which was started in 1993 by a former Peace Corps volunteer. Aid Through Trade™ empowers women. Each piece is handmade with love by artisans in Nepal. Your purchase provides women with a fair income and benefits in a safe and healthy work environment.

Rescued Wine Candles and products are handmade in Truckee, California. The creators repurpose wine bottles with new life as the vessel for their soy candles. A portion of every sale is given to animal rescue groups. The best ingredients available are used in their candles and the choice of repurposing wine bottles allows them to be environmentally responsible. The result is a one-of-a-kind product that gives off a wonderful aroma which lasts as you burn the entire candle.

Impressive, right? It is so great to see that there are many people looking out for others that need a hand up.

Here at Scooch A Mi, we wish you all the best for this Holiday Season. In addition to donating to charitable causes, let’s be mindfully kind. A little kindness in our everyday lives goes a long way.

Blessings to you and yours!
