As I walked the aisles of the NY Now Tradeshow, my eyes caught sight of a booth with the most imaginative jewelry. Talking with the representative, I learned about the mission and creation of this line. They had me. I'd like to share their story with you.
Rebel Nell began in 2013 with the mission to employ women facing barriers to employment in Detroit, educate them on financial management, life wellness, and entrepreneurship, and empower them to transition to a life of independence.
Rebel Nell partners with local Detroit organizations to seek out women who have struggled to find and retain employment. The women are hired as Creative Designers, taught to craft unique, wearable art from fallen layers of graffiti, while wrap-around supports are provided to start them on the path towards upward mobility.
Using what is right around them is abundance, Rebel Nell crafts men's and women's jewelry from graffiti that has fallen off various buildings and sites around Detroit. Each piece is a one of a kind, and handcrafted out of repurposed layers of fallen graffiti paint, with a sterling silver, bronze or 14k gold filled chain and bezel, and resin.

As a social impact driven, for-profit business, Rebel Nell ensures that the incredible women who are served come first, and every product sold has a direct impact on the lives of these creative designers.
