A New Partnership Promoting Mindful Kindness
Women supporting women is such a beautiful action.
My friend, Pooja Krishna of Maroon Oak – a free platform for women entrepreneurs – realized the potential of a partnership between Scooch A Mi Boutique and the non-profit Knit Crochet with Love. Pooja made the introductions and a partnership was formed! Knit Nights now have a Giving Back element that I am beyond excited to bring to you. Let me tell you about my new friends Richa Gupta and Sudha Pai.
Knit Crochet with Love was formed in November 2016 one cold winter afternoon when dear friends, Richa Gupta and Sudha Pai started talking about their passion for knitting. On a whim Richa and Sudha decided to form a group to make caps for the cancer society. Never in their wildest dreams, did they realize that their decision to revive a childhood hobby would have such a meaningful impact on the community.
They started with a team of five that grew steadily and today it stands at 100 + members with diverse backgrounds and varied levels of skills ranging in age from 14 to 94.
Richa and Sudha created a 501(c)3 and to date have donated over 4200 caps and 35 blankets to various cancer centers like Memorial Sloan Kettering, Trinitas, RWJ, Morristown Memorial, Procure Center, Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle, Dana Faber in Boston.
Making the hand-knit caps gives members an opportunity to fulfill their desire to serve the community. Members of Knit Crochet with Love make a $25 yearly donation. This covers the cost of as many skeins of yarn the member would like to have. There are guidelines for creating the caps that include the type of yarn. This makes it easy to knit as many caps as you'd like with little expense for the yarn. This is an exciting addition to Knit Night. We will still be working on our own projects as the caps don't take that long to knit once you get the hang of it.
Knitting needles for the caps are available at Scooch A Mi for purchase.
Everything you need to get started will be waiting for you on Knit Night!
